We are pioneers in this field. Our team was among the first to develop the map matching technology.
Trax Matching core algorithm ideas were developed as part of an ETH Zurich route choice analysis project in 2003.
GPS data could be visualised in the Geographic Information Systems of the day, but they couldn’t produce any meaningful route analysis, so Trax Matching was born.
We were the first to identify network topology as the key to efficient route matching. Once our prototype was ready, it was tested on a speed study analysis in Zurich, comparing corrected routes against drivers with manual logbooks. Trax Matching passed with flying colours!
Trax Matching has been continually developed over the years, and the snap to road solution enhanced.
Our team proudly boasts several firsts in this field, including the first solution to use network topology efficiently and the first to offer a public API based on OpenStreetmap.
